Essence

The women who surround me possess an exceptional strength that seems similar to what one might see in a masculine portrait from the late Gothic period or the Renaissance. But here, portraiture is not about highlighting the subject’s position in the social hierarchy. Instead it serves to underscore, and idealise the radiant strength of contemporary women.
This strength is no longer a pose: it is now a reality. A point of view and a single location. A part of the whole. An impression. A small fragment of the essence.

Esencia

Las mujeres que me rodean poseen esa extraña fuerza que parece emanar de los retratos masculinos del Gótico tardío y del Renacimiento. Pero ahora no se trata de subrayar e idealizar un determinado papel social del retratado, sino de subrayar e idealizar esa fortaleza que desprenden estas mujeres contemporáneas en el mundo de hoy.
Esta fuerza ha dejado de ser una pose para convertirse en una realidad. Un punto de vista y un solo lugar. Una parte del todo. Un pequeño fragmento de la esencia.

Essence

Les femmes qui m’entourent possèdent la même force indescriptible qui émane des portraits masculins de style gothique tardif ou de l’époque de la Renaissance. L’objectif n’est pas d’analyser la fonction sociale du portrait mais de mettre en exergue la force qui émane de ces femmes d’aujourd’hui.
La pose devient réalité. Un point de vue et un lieu unique. Une partie du tout. Un petit fragment d’essence.
